Feeling a little glum during the COVID 19 pandemic, I decided to put on my positive pants and get creative! Photography is like therapy to me, it’s definately my happy place, and helps me de-stress.
So what did I do; I shamelessly scrolled my Facebook, off I went through 700+ Facebook friends when I came across Danny ‘Leslie’ Charles. Some of you may know Danny as he is Grantham’s most epic Tattooist from Cross Keys Tattoo.
I dropped Danny a message, let’s keep in mind that I hadnt really seen Danny since 1997 when the world was all about Adidas Poppers, Rollerworld, Byker Grove and taping Hanson and The Spice Girls on the Sunday night top 40 with your ghetto blaster.
Despite my slightly random and totally out of the blew message, I was delighted when Danny and his gorgeous partner Leanne agreed to come and model for the afternoon.
The date was set, location agreed and Danny brought along his beloved motorbike.
I’ve been Facebook Friends with Melton lad Glen Handley for little over a year now; our paths crossed working on a wedding together last year. Glen is an insanely talented Hair Dresser at Fresh Heir in Melton Mowbray.
Every now and again Glen pops up on my Facebook news feed and he always makes me smile (him and his super cute Frenchie Rita).
From time to time I get the urge to do something different with my photography and to challenge myself. I want to break free, and in true Freddie Mercury Style I did!
I messaged Glen and more or less said “Hey you, I like your face, can I photograph it?” Amazingly despite my slightly creepy approach Glen said “HELL YES”.
We batted messages back and forth and organised the details. Today I headed to Melton Mowbray home of the Pork Pie (I didn’t bloody get one) and we had an epic afternoon shooting…..
FACT: There is no greater compliment than a returning family!
31st August 2018 I heard the sound of my vibrating phone; incoming message from the lovely Niki “Hi I wondered if you do newborn photography”.
OH YES I DO!!!
I excitedly responded congratulating Niki and we provisionally booked a date for Niki and her family to have a photoshoot around the expected due date of their new arrival (January 2019).
The months passed and the photoshoot date fast approached; after rescheduling twice (these babies can be unpredictable you know) I finally got to visit Niki and family and meet their beautiful baby girl.
The early days following the arrival of a new baby are often a blur, you are inundated with family and friends visiting your brand spanking new tiny human, you are probably feeling exhausted after experiencing first hand what sleep deprivation is.
However there really is no better way to remember the arrival of your new addition than to capture candid photographs of your first days together in a documentary style.
Ropsley Colts the only football team I have ever really supported!
During my life I have never really been much of a football fan, that was until our eldest son decided he wanted to join the Ropsley Colts. It was at this point I kissed goodbye to my weekend lie in and lazy mornings at home in the warm… for I am now a football mum!!
Ellis joined the Colts and has formed a phenomenal bond with his football family. Despite the rain and sub-zero temperatures we have to endure when spectating; I love the fact that he likes kicking a ball and interacting with other children in the great outdoors #outsideisfree.
On a rare Saturday off from family and wedding photography I decided I would try and organise a treat for Ellis and his football family. I dropped the Gingerbreads a message on Facebook and asked if the Colts would be able to attend Grantham Town FC to have a kick about! Low and behold the lovely Simon Hayes AKA Gingerbread Si came back to me and said yes!
The weeks passed and the boys eagerly awaited their trip to Grantham Town FC. Slightly concerned that the flurry of snow overnight would have the game called off we were delighted to hear the news that it was still on!
The Colts layered up and wearing their blue and red kits the boys proudly entered the home of the Gingerbreads!!! On arrival we were met by Gingerbread Si who told us to enjoy the first half and at half time the boys would be invited onto the pitch for some penalties…
The boys thought it was like being at Wembley, what a treat!!!
Despite Grantham’s unfortunate 2-0 loss to Workington AFC the Colts had a fab time and learnt a thing or two in the process.
On behalf of the boys I would like to say a huge thank you to all at Grantham Town FC for making the Colts feel so welcome and especially to The Grantham Gingerbread Mascot, Mark Bland U21s Manager, Ross Barrows First Team Player, Louis Bland Academy Manager, Nigel Wedgwood Chairman and of course to the lovely Gingerbread Si!
On Friday 11 January 2019 I attended a photography workshop with The Alternatives at the utterly stunning Pumping House in Ollerton (formerly Boughton Pumping Station).
The Pumping House is amazing, with fabulously quirky themed rooms it is the perfect setting for any wedding or event. If you are on the hunt for your wedding venue I urge you pay them a visit – you will not be disappointed!!!
The styling for the day was just perfect and the creatives involved did a superb job. The day had a modern feel and the entire shoot was pure geometric gorgeousness.
